Photo Dump: Walk with the ARTS at Indian fort theater

I couldn't be more thankful for the people god has brought into my life. One of those being the lovely art teacher in the photo above. I met her through student teaching 3 years ago and she has since been a mentor to me. Although I don't have an art teaching job, she has been there to show me all kinds of opportunities that allow me to get the kind of teaching I want out of my degree. She has also supported me fully with my decision in being a designer (in the process of building a company) which is something not a lot of older people understand.

A couple weekends ago we worked together on the hands on painting booth for over 1000 4th graders from all the schools in the madison county area. Walk with the Arts is a day for all these kids to get their hands dirty with all kinds of material and watch real artists from the area demo their skills. It's really a cool little thing we have in berea and I hope they continue it so that June will get to experience it one day. There was weaving, clay, glass, metal forging, music, dance and all kinds of things that I barely got a glimpse of... we stayed busy getting the kids through our station. Throughout the day we had small groups from each school come into our booth to work on 4 large plywood murals that spelled out WALK WITH THE ARTS. Each child had to fill in a section. Each group had around 15 mins. This was my first year working it so I took the lead of my mentor and learned a lot about working in large groups. I hope I get to do this next year it was a lot of fun!

Art Camp 2013 in Photos and Thoughts

The last couple of weeks were super busy for me making sure art camp ran successfully this year and making sure that kids had a great time. All while making sure I didn't pop! Lol that's a picture of me above on the last day for our culminating performance for the campers parents. Everyday I came home from camp I literally went straight to bed because I knew my body could only handle so much. So even though I told you all I was going to post pictures everyday from camp... it didn't happen because I am not super woman.

I am super proud though... in my eyes camp turned out great. I had happy parents and happy campers. I couldn't have done it without the help of all the great teachers, volunteers and a wonderful assistant! We had quite a few changes from camp a year before when I first directed it which made the process a little scary this year but I think that our changes were big successes!

It takes over 6 months to plan camp and then watching the two weeks of camp fly by always surprises me. I remember right in the beginning of all of this with hardly any belly showing convincing the Arts Council that I could do this. They were worried but at the time I wasn't however I had no idea how I was going to feel up to this point in pregnancy. By the start of the second week of camp was when I started thinking "why did I sign myself up for this when I can't bend over or pick anything up?" I thought about how early some woman go into labor and for a moment freaked out a little because I knew I had to be there every day to run camp.

As you can see though... my belly or my brain didn't pop! I made it through and actually enjoyed it! I did miss blogging and having the time to work on baby stuff though but now I have that time!

PS... I took a gazillion pictures I just wanted to throw up a handful of my favorite moments with the campers. :)

First 3 days of Art Camp

Camp has been wonderful so far this week with only 2 more days to go! Having the young ones this week made me so excited for when my little one arrives. So thankful for the wonderful teachers, volunteers, parents and kids who signed up this week.

ART CAMP 2013!!!

Goodness time is flying and I am a little less than five weeks from my due date! July 13th!! I have been an emotional wreck... no kidding. It's making me so ready for labor not even caring how bad it hurts just ready for the emotional roller coaster to stop!

Today starts the Berea Art's Councils Art Camp! This is my second year directing it and I have already learned so much from last year and this year about the process and how to set up camp successfully it's been a little stressful but very helpful for me for what I plan to do with my future.

This year we were thrown some curve balls with the dates having to be a lot earlier because of my baby and last years problem with it being so hot. We also had to find another building because the one used every year was getting renovated. We almost didn't get enough signups to have camp which had me really sad but it all turned out and we have a great sized group! I learned so much about promoting and advertising something within my community. Let's just say it should be on the top of your list before planning anything else!

So these two weeks I will be posting pictures from each day of camp and maybe throwing in some other posts if I get a chance to share. So much to do still! Wish me luck!!!

Fabulous Friday: and I am back...

I know I didn't announce that I wouldn't be able to blog for a bit but really it just came and went the past two weeks. Running a camp was quite a task and I'm just so happy I made it through without scars and only smiles. The past couple hours I have just been reflecting on the whole thing and going through it again in pictures. I am sad but it feels so good to live in that moment. Seeing kids smile really gets me excited and even though at the time I wondered if I could make it through... I did.

So I am back in action and happy to have had a break from internet for a bit! I got some cool new ideas for diy blog posts on my mind, some new fun items to be listed in the shop, and FESTIVALS! I love my festivals and can't wait to see how we improve from last year!

I'm really sick of the skeeters and heat though and ready for cool fall so I can walk my crazy pup and maybe ride the bike. Also fingers crossed my car will be up and running again. I worked hard this summer and can't wait to use the money to get a new lap top and pay off some bills!
